In this photograph I get a since of nostalgia and industrious tone.A tone I believe is positive, in the since that the shoe itself represents a hardworking, sturdy object. Your aesthetic choices also lead me to believe in this sort of nostalgia and industrious tone, starting with color of the image: warm, rustic, textural, that gives of the earthy feeling. Your decision not to not use Photoshop effects that would allow this object to look clean, new and worn in, as to say these are for style not a hard worker,by presenting the
the scratches, scars I receive this feeling. The dramatic layout of the object in relationship to the lighting, and shadow, gives off a setting of hard days work finished or new day full of work begin. To transmit this you use:
Presentational: Foot(shoe)
Representational: Photography
Mechanical:Paper,Screen,Projection.
The textural elements gain, scratches, marks (noise) strengthen my perception of the image.

Perfect... I'm glad you got a sense of nostalgia, that is definitely something I wanted to communicate. The dramatic angle and strong lighting were tools I used to help convey the ruggedness of the boot as well as its signs of wear/age. The decision to shoot against the concrete was at attempt to communicate the environment in which this object would be worn. I never really gave much thought to the "earthy" qualities of the boot and the photo but I definitely see them now that you brought them to my attention. The textures on the boot and the colors really suggest soil or the crust of the earth.

Thanks for the interpretation.

I get a sense that someone really likes his boots.
