AUDIENCE
Eligible Asian voters ages 25-44 years old

1. what are some predominately shared values?

-belief in democracy and the democratic process
-belief in full civic participation and access of all Asian Americans
-belief that communities best represent themselves
-two-thirds of all Asian Americans lean Democratic and the other third identify with the Republicans
-according to a Harvard research report, among young Asian Americans (18-24), the percentage who lean Democratic is much higher


2. what political policies/issues are particularly important to this demographic in this election? why?

-due to the fact that roughly 61% of Asian Americans are non-native born, the political issues that Asian Americans are most concerned with differ from US born citizens
-Asian Americans have played a pivotal role in other nationally significant contests (in 2006, 76% of Virginia's Asian American and Pacific-Islander voters supported Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Jim Webb)
-Equal rights (access to economic, land and occupational opportunities)
-Immigration
-Economy/Jobs
-Civil liberties



3. are there any cultural references your demographic identifies with? what?

-Chinese take-out restaurants

-only 5% of the American population is of Asian descent
-the growing amount of Asian-Americans translates to strength at the polls
-although Asian Americans are only 5% of the population in the U.S., Asian Americans have links to more than 60% percent of the world's population through our ethnicity, culture and roots
-interest in Pop Culture
-fashion forward
-expressionistic

5. Including the AIGA document and other sources, what are the issues cited for this group not voting?

-mistranslated voting materials
-inadequate interpreters
